Dementia Radio frequently asked questions
Dementia Radio frequently asked questions What is Dementia Radio?
Dementia Radio is an internet radio station that features a group of DJ's (or in some cases, DJ wanne-be's) who have a passion for silly, off-the-wall tunage. We're all fans of the immortal Dr. Demento and we call the genre of music he plays "Dementia". Others might call it comedy or novelty, but we have a different opinion. Just 'cause a song isn't "funny" doesn't mean it's not demented. So there!
Sounds good, how do I listen? You need to put the server address...
http://DementiaRadio.org:8000 for dial-up http://DementiaRadio.org:8027 for broadband
into an MP3 player that can play streams. We recommend Winamp, but we have heard that Real Player, Windows Media Player, Quicktime, Jet Audio and Soniqe will work too. We've even linked to their respective web pages for you. Aren't we thoughtful?

Dementiaradio-Unsubscribe@Dementiaradio.org What happened to Radio.thelandofdementia.com?
It's still there. Both url's go to the same place, but dementiaradio.org is much shorter :-) The cast is skipping, anything I can do to stop it?
It depends on how it is skipping. If the music stops, your player re-buffers, then starts again, it's a problem on the listener side. In WinAmp you can increase the buffer by going to: Options > Preferences > Input > Nullsoft MPEG Audio Decoder > Configure > Streaming. The higher you kick it up, the longer it will take for the 1st buffer, but the connection will be more stable. Click for a visual guide.
If the music is coming in skipped with no pauses, then it's a problem on the dj or server side. Either the server is filled up and doing other things that require lots of bandwidth(which has yet to happen on the new server), or the dj's bandwidth is filling up (aka he's casting a 24k cast on a 28.8k connection), the processor is to bogged down to properly encode the stream, or there is trouble between the DJ and server. In those cases, there's not much that the listener can do, sorry.
Can I be a DJ? We are always looking for new DJ's and new shows. We have a tight schedule and all the good prime time slots are taken and if there is ever an opening, we offer it to the more senior DJ's(including those that use to be with us and left on good terms and are returning) 1st. But there's still several decent time slots and every DJ's, who on the rare occasion, have taken a day or late night slot has gotten good numbers. We have certain commiments and expectations for DJ's, but if you think you can play entertaining, funny, and silly music and show up to your show most of the time, email us at info@dementiaradio.org and we will discuss it with you.
Are you affiliated with dementiaradio.com? No. We know very little about that station, when they started, or what they play. We believe we started at the same time. They say they started in 1999 which is when we started up this server. It looks like they play "sick twisted and disgusting" music rather then silly, off-the-wall stuff like us. Stay with us, you'll like us better ... really!
Hey, how can I communicate with you bunch of crazies? Well, there are a few ways.
First off some of our shows have their very own websites and the DJ's probably have their e-mail addresses posted there (if they don't they should). The links to shows will be hyperlinked on the show's name in the schedule page.

Hey,
how can I
communicate
with you bunch of crazies?
Well, there are a
few ways.
First off some of our shows have their very own websites and the DJ's
probably
have their e-mail addresses posted there (if they don't they
should). The links to shows will be hyperlinked on the show's
name in the schedule page.
The next way is via IRC (internet relay chat). Many of our DJ's
are in
our IRC chatroom during their shows and at other times too. Just
use an
IRC client like Mirc. We are
on EFnet
and the room name is #dementia. IRC is a great way to get an
instant
request in to your favorite DJ as well as to chat with other demented
listeners
;-) We also now have a java client if you have no clue how set up Mirc.
Just go to http://dementiaradio.org/chat
Give it a try, it's fun!
To contact the station via email, send a msg to info@dementiaradio.org! |
